FINE's New England Farm & Sea to Campus Network team has been busy planning events and communications platforms for you to use! Our new monthly virtual forums and email listserv for dining operators are both exciting new opportunities to connect with your peers and further our collective efforts to source and serve more local and sustainable food at New England campuses.
Register for our first FINE Farm & Sea to Campus Forum
The Farm to Institution New England team is excited to continue our new series of monthly virtual forums for the New England Farm & Sea to Campus Network that provides stakeholders with an opportunity to connect, share, and learn about farm to campus issues. Each forum features a combination of guest speakers and open discussion on specific topics, such as how to use velocity reports to expand local food efforts; how to reduce and repurpose food waste; and how to engage students to further your goals and better meet their needs. The series of forums will be moderated by Holly Fowler, CEO of Northbound Ventures and a collaborator with the Henry P. Kendall Foundation.
Our upcoming forum, “Menuing for a Regional Food System,” will be held on Monday, April 9th from 1 to 2 pm ET. Join us to discuss the variety of ways that local food can be added to college menus, featuring the following guest speakers:
- Mary Reilly | Executive Chef, Westfield State University
- David Gould | Executive Chef, Rhode Island School of Design
- Mike Webster | General Manager, The Hotchkiss School
Join the FINE Campus Dining Operators Listserv
This listserv has been created through Google Groups as a collaboration tool for dining program directors, chefs, other food service operators and community partners engaged in the procurement, preparation and promotion of foods raised, grown and produced in New England.
Use this platform to ask your questions of the network, share your expertise on inquiries posed by other members, gather feedback on your emerging ideas, tell us about your insights and successes, and announce events or opportunities. We are more efficient and effective when we are connected, so let's work together!
This listserv is lightly moderated by representatives of Farm to Institution New England (FINE) and the Henry P. Kendall Foundation (HPKF), who share a common goal to support institutions committed to advancing the New England Food Vision of 50 by 60.
Looking Ahead: Take the 2018 FINE Campus Dining Survey
Finally, we are excited to announce that we will be sharing our 2018 New England Campus Dining Survey with campus dining operators this summer. This is the second implementation of this survey. The results of our 2015 survey, which received a 50% response rate, have set a baseline for local procurement practices on New England campuses and have been instrumental in informing the work we do. The 2018 survey will allow us to measure from that baseline and continue to support colleges and universities in the region as we all work towards a more resilient food system.
The results of the 2015 survey can be found in our Campus Dining 101 report. We look forward to hearing from you when we release the survey this summer!
