Food Day Roundup

More than 500 institutions across New England are celebrating Food Day this week!

This week, thousands of events all around the country are bringing Americans together to celebrate and enjoy real food and to push for improved food policies. Here's a roundup of the Food Day 2015 events at schools, colleges and hospitals in New England:   

  1. More than 420 schools in Massachusetts will serve fresh, local breakfast and lunch with limited processed foods on October 23rd as part of the Massachusetts Department of Education Food Day Challenge. Learn more >
  2. Eastbay schools in Portsmouth, Bristol Warren, Barrington, Middletown, Tiverton and Little Compton, Rhode Island, are offering locally grown apples for Apple Crunch at lunch on October 23rd. Learn more >
  3. More than 60 health care facilities will serve meat and poultry raised without the use of non-therapeutic antibiotics. Learn more >
  4. Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, is serving local food all week, hosting a "meet the producers" event, putting on a big harvest dinner and screening the Food Chains documentary. Learn more >
  5. Harvard University in Cambridge, Masachusetts, is hosting a Food Law & Policy Conference on antibiotics in the food system on October 23rd. Learn more >
  6. UMass Amherst in Amherst, Massachusetts, is hosting Food for Good: Cultivating Sustainable Solutions to Hunger in Mass on October 30th. Learn more >
  7. Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, is putting on a Four Pillars of Food event complete with dance, music and food. Learn more >
  8. Worcester State University in Worcester, Massachusetts, is hosting Food Day events all day on October 21st. Learn more >
  9. Framingham State Univeristy is providing games, prizes, samples and nutrition education during lunch on October 22nd. Learn more >
  10. Lincoln Elementary School in Brookline, Massachusetts, is screening the film "Just Eat It" with a panel discussion on October 25th. Learn more >
  11. Addison Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester, Massachusetts, hosted a chef demo, raffle contest and local food taste test on October 20th. Learn more >
  12. Whidden Hospital in Everett, Massachusetts, is serving antibiotic-free meats and local produce in their cafe on October 23rd. Learn more >
