Farm to School Month is almost here!

The kickoff for National Farm to School Month is less than four weeks away, and the National Farm to School Network is busy gearing up for the celebrations! Every October, we are joined by hundreds of schools, preschools and organizations across the county to celebrate the connections happening between children and local food.
Farm to School Month is a time to recognize the educational, economic, environmental and public health benefits of farm to school. From taste tests in the cafeteria and nutrition education activities in the classroom, to farm visits and school garden harvest parties, communities in all 50 states and D.C. will be joining in to share the important message that farm to school is a win for kids, farmers and communities.

Everyone can celebrate Farm to School Month! Here are a few ideas for getting involved:

  • Celebrate locally: The Great Lakes Great Apple Crunch, the Midwest Menu and Georgia's Rooting for Carrots program are just a few of the many local Farm to School Month events happening around the country this October. Contact your local school or state lead to see what events are happening in your community.
  • Read great stories: Throughout October, we’ll be featuring guest blog posts on our website that showcase innovations, impacts and exciting farm to school successes. Check in regularly to see how farm to school continues to expand and transform communities across the country.
  • Spread the word: Join in the online celebrations by following the National Farm to School Network on Twitter and Facebook, and use the hashtags #F2SMonth and#farmtoschool in your social media messaging throughout October.
  • Farm to School 101 webinar: Mark your calendar for a Farm to School 101 webinar! On Tuesday, October 13 from 12-12:30 pm CT, we’ll discuss the basics of the farm to school movement, its core elements, and how it is working to connect 23.5 million children to local food in schools all over the country. Register here
